The human heart (15 February)

This Sunday’s gospel gives us the chance to reflect on the nature of the human heart. In my sermon most weeks, I seem to make reference to the state of our world. I feel called to do that because of the loud voices in the contemporary narrative that stand in strong contrast to Jesus’ teaching. He stood for compassion, generosity, and equity. He called us to emulate those attitudes and behaviours.

At times I feel woefully underpowered for the task! We are reminded that we stand in the power of the Spirit and the goodness that we can champion in our own small orbit is significant.

As we approach Ash Wednesday it is my aim to set us in the direction of reconciliation and growth. I hope that you will consider the upcoming weeks in Lent as an opportunity for a closer walk with God. And do join us for pancakes on Shrove Tuesday (see the Services page for details).
