A mountain-top experience (9 August)

Every gospel gives us an opportunity to examine our life in relation to Jesus’ teaching. This week the story of the Transfiguration (found in Mark, Chapter 9) is no exception. Peter, James and John have a mountain-top experience that changes their understanding of who Jesus is. They hear the voice of God urging them to listen to his Son. Oh that we could have such direct interaction with the power of God!

In fact, this awe-inspiring connection is available to us if we silence the monkey-chatter of the mind. There are prayerful approaches that may assist us in our quest for transformation. In my sermon this week I will reflect on how the Transfiguration of Jesus occurs for us as we embrace sacred imagination.

Our Choral Evensong at St James on last Sunday night was a fitting way to mark our Patronal Festival. Its success bodes well for further celebratory occasions. It was a joy to have Bishop Alison with us.
