On discernment (5 July)

Dear Friends,

Our gospel this week (found in Matthew Chapter 11) forms part of the teaching known as the farewell discourse. Jesus provides information for his disciples, and that includes us. Following on from last week’s comments on righteousness, we come to the issue of discernment. This is certainly a challenge for our times. How can we know when we are heading in the right direction? My sermon will draw on the wisdom of Richard Rohr who champions Contemplation as a methodology to overcome the limitations and bias of both Protestant and Catholic teaching. I will continue to examine metaphor and image as tools for our learning.
