Lost and found (14 September)

Another busy week when I took a funeral for a young woman I grew up with. It was a sad event but also an opportunity to sink deep into the gospel message “whenever you did it for the least of these, you did it for me” (Matthew: 25–45).

This week I have also attended a day training for priests that focused on psychological type and the functioning of teams. It was time well spent as it gave me an opportunity to think on how Parish Council and our occasional choir function. The overarching principle was the joy of diversity in God’s kingdom and how we best work together to deepen our understanding of the Spirit.

This Sunday’s gospel (Luke 15: 1–15) focuses on the lost sheep and the lost coin. I have worked on the sermon in the light of Anglican identity. This is because the pattern of being lost and found again links well with the idea of knowing who we are so that differences can become a living catalyst for growth and change.

This Sunday our Op Shop will be open from 1.00 PM in the hope of attracting some passing traffic from the Arts Project Australia event which is happening on the day. I do hope many of you will take this opportunity to drop in to say hello.
