Looking back, looking forward (24 August)

This week we celebrate the anniversary of the first service held at All Saints 165 years ago. What a remarkable achievement This is a wonderful time for us to reflect on all that has been achieved by the faithful people of this parish and wonder about our next chapter. Parish Council is putting time into thinking about how we might expand our spiritual offerings. We are looking for renewal, and the wonderful prayer from Leading Your Church into Growth (LYCIG) which begins ‘God of Mission you alone bring growth to your church’ is having an impact. There are signs of change in our community – evidence of the working of the Holy Spirit.

The theme of change dovetails with this week’s gospel which focuses on healing. Jesus falls foul of the leader of the synagogue, who decries his unorthodox behaviour. My sermon will explore the nexus between change and healing. Another busy week looms with Parish Council and an in-person LYCIG follow-up as well. I don’t know where the week goes!
