Joyful occasions (9 November)

What a joyous occasion we shared with Bishop Alison for the Confirmation of Abigail and Hannah last week. On All Saints’ Day t was deeply moving to hear the hearty singing of much-loved hymns that commemorate the Communion of Saints. This week we share in another wonderful occasion when we welcome the Reverend Canon Glenn Loughrey who will preach on Mercy and Reconciliation. Glenn’s visit has been long anticipated, and we will use the liturgy he has prepared for use in the diocese. The immediacy of the language encourages us to focus in the moment as the actions of the Eucharist unfold. It will be important for us to hear his teaching around the form of words used in Acknowledgment of Country. Uncle Glenn will stay on to extend the conversation after lunch. This week we welcomed two adults and a child to the family of God through Baptism at Thornbury. What a blessing! I look forward to our Sunday worship.
