Invitation to re-birth (1 March)

We began this week with a funeral; a Requiem Mass that provided an opportunity to reflect deeply on the hospitality of the Eucharist. Looking back on the week causes me to recognise a strong connection with this Sunday’s sermon, to be based on the Gospel passage found in John, Chapter 3. Nicodemus comes by night with a pressing question. How can a man re-enter the womb and be born again? Jesus gives a succinct answer: one must be born “from above”. Each of us is invited to re-birth through renewed vision.

I will explore this theme drawing on the writing of Daniel O’Leary, who explains the Incarnation in such an earthly fashion that we may be encouraged to see God in every aspect of our ordinary lives.

Our Lenten reflection groups are underway on Thursdays after the Eucharist at St James and Wednesday evenings at All Saints. I do encourage you to take a little time out to embrace this period of preparation for the great festival of Easter.
