Inspiring occasions (16 November)

What an inspiring Sunday we shared with Canon Uncle Glenn Loughrey last week! His teaching was generous and fulsome. After talking about Acknowledgement of Country, he explained that the structure of Acknowledgement is important. It should state respect for elders because this is key to good relationships. Care for country and the spirit of all who live on it are primary. One should speak from the heart. He set us some challenging homework. We should all write our own Acknowledgement. It would be wonderful to hear yours.

I find Uncle Glenn’s language poetic and immersive. He began his sermon by addressing God as Great Creator Spirit. There is something dynamic and powerful in this way of speaking. It rather shakes up images of God we may have held from childhood. He introduced us to the notion of the Everwhen. What a fascinating way to move us away from the concept of linear time. This is a theme that I will connect with in this Sunday’s sermon.

Our liturgical year is fast drawing to a close and our Annual Meeting is on the horizon. I hope you will be attending. I also encourage you to consider standing for Parish Council. It is important for this group to reflect the diversity of gifts and talents in our community.
