How do you best learn? (20 July)

Dear Friends,

As our Sunday gospel is Mary and Martha (found in Luke Chapter 10), it is appropriate that some of us have taken time out this week end to be still with God. It is a challenge for we who are ‘doers’. It is so easy to find ourselves experiencing the tyranny of the ‘to do list’! Jesus tells us the better part is to pause and allow his words to seep into our being.

We will all find different ways to create this much-needed space. You have heard me speak of learning styles before. There is no right way; with experience we come to know our way. Some of us like logic taken in a written form. Some of us are aural learners and some of us like to listen or speak. Some of us are like Martha, kinaesthetic learners who need to jump to and take action in order to learn. Some of us like to blend these modes of learning. Whatever our preference, our gospel urges us to lean into Jesus’ teaching. In him we will find solace and sustenance.

Our Patronal Festival for St James is on the horizon. Bishop Alison will join us for this special occasion. The combined service will be at 10.30 at St James on Sunday 27 July.
