Boundaries and healing (7 June)

The themes of this Sunday’s gospel passage (found in Matthew Chapter 9) are crossing boundaries and healing. In many ways they are straightforward concepts but certainly important ones for our community at present. In my reading this week I have found an interesting book entitled Broken Hearts and New Creations by James Alison. It has given me a new way of thinking about Jesus’ death and what it meant for him to surrender to a vacuum. I will develop that theme in my sermon. The question for all of us is: can we walk in the light of Christ, praying for his strength and wisdom in order to be part of a new creation? This is not a rhetorical question.
