A world of peace (7 December)

Dear Friends,

The weeks pass so quickly, with one week of Advent gone already! This week we hear of John the Baptist and the wonderful words of comfort from the great prophet Isaiah. We hear of a world of peace as the one will come with righteousness as the belt around his waist. One who will see and hear with capacities far beyond human eye and ear.

Despite the fact that the Messiah has lived on earth, we continue to see a world riven with conflict and driven by greed. How precious are the hours we can spend in church contemplating the deep wisdom of Isaiah and cultivating the deep hearing I spoke of last week. How enriching it is to contemplate the ways that the metaphors found in art can coax us into deeper understanding of the love of God demonstrated in the Incarnation.
